A robot named Roz switches on for the first time on a remote island, with no idea how she got there. There are no people. There is weather, and there are animals, and most of the animals think she is a monster.
She learns by watching. She copies the ways the animals stay alive, adopts an orphaned gosling named Brightbill, and slowly becomes part of the island. Then the company that built her sends robots to bring her back. Peter Brown’s black-and-white drawings run through the short chapters, and the book became a DreamWorks film.
