Max puts on his wolf suit, makes enough mischief that his mother calls him a wild thing, and gets sent to bed without supper. A forest grows in his room, an ocean rolls in, and he sails away to the island where the Wild Things live.
The monsters try to frighten him. He stares them down, and they make him their king. After the wild rumpus he starts to feel lonely, and the smell of good things to eat pulls him home, where his supper is waiting and still warm.
