Wilbur is the runt of the litter, and a girl named Fern saves him from her father’s ax. When he moves to her uncle’s barn, Wilbur learns from the other animals that spring pigs usually end up as Christmas dinner.
His one hope is Charlotte, a gray spider who lives in the barn doorway. She starts spinning words into her web to convince the farmer that Wilbur is no ordinary pig, and Templeton the rat helps, for a price. Garth Williams drew the original pictures.
