Duncan opens his box of crayons and finds a stack of letters. Every color has written to complain. Beige is tired of being called light brown, Red is worn out from fire engines and holidays, and Yellow and Orange have stopped speaking because each one says it is the real color of the sun.
Duncan reads them all, then works out a way to give each crayon something new to do. Oliver Jeffers drew the letters as if each crayon wrote its own, in its own color, so the pages look like notes someone really left in the box.
